Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville isn’t just about mountain views—it’s also a tour through some of the Southeast’s most beautiful waterfalls. This 469-mile scenic highway is home to cascades big and small, all within a short drive (or walk) from the road.
One of the crown jewels is Crabtree Falls, located at Milepost 339.5. A moderate 2.5-mile loop hike rewards you with a 70-foot plunge surrounded by ferns and rhododendron. Continue north and you’ll come across Glassmine Falls, best viewed from the overlook at Milepost 361.2.
Southbound from Asheville, the Graveyard Fields Waterfalls (Upper and Lower Falls) are easily accessible from Milepost 418.8. These falls are part of a high-elevation valley filled with wild blueberries, making it a great stop in late summer and early fall.
